Switchel Gummies!

Gummies Done.jpg

Switchel into gummies?! Yes please! Switchel is the “hay makers” summer punch. It is a drink traditionally made of vinegar, ginger and a sweetener designed to quench the thirst. Switchel also has immune boosting properties, powerful anti-inflammatory properties and can help to fight the common cold or flu. I recommend families give their little ones some ginger and turmeric but the response I usually get is , “HOW??” Thus, I have included the answer, gummy form. Gummy bear, gummy hearts, gummy dinosaurs, the list goes on and on. This recipe is not vegan, I have a vegan recipe coming soon that includes agar agar instead.

Nerd out time…

Not only does switchel boost immunity, reduce inflammation and support digestion, but it also contains the prized ginger and turmeric. Ginger is known for antioxidant support, preventing cell damage and protecting against chronic disease. Turmeric is a warming spice known for it’s antioxidant support, reduction of skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, and it has mood boosting benefits. :)

Recipe:

1 tsp ground fresh ginger

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

1/4 cup raw, local honey (molasses if under 1 year old)

1/2 tsp tumeric

1/2 cup carrot juice (freshly juiced)

1/2 cup orange juice (freshly juiced)

1 TBSP gelatin

Silicone molds- I purchased mine from Etsy! SO cute!

First stir gelatin onto 1/2 cup of cold water and let sit for 5 minutes. When you are waiting, mix the remaining ingredients into a saucepan and warm them until they become hot. Once they are hot, add the gelatin/water mixture in until gelatin is dissolved. Pour liquid into mold and allow to firm in the fridge before serving.
